Traditionally a coulis is a culinary term for a thick sauce made from purred fruits or vegetables. Luckily, the word is versatile, just like this delicious oriental Hibiscus concoction. This sauce is made from a combination of Tamari Soy Sauce; Hibiscus infused Vinegar, real hibiscus flowers, brown sugar, beets, and a combination of Asian spices. Use this wonderful coulis to add flavor to dishes both as a marinade before cooking or as a plating sauce afterwards. The floral aromas and sweet flavors are surprising but appropriate with the deep flavors of Asian cuisine.
Marinating your proteins and hearty vegetables allows you to improve your food in several ways. One, you’re of course infusing your ingredients with lots of wonderful flavors. Two, any acidity in the marinade tenderizes your meats and proteins by starting to break down some of the tougher fibers.
