Crème Fraiche is a French term that literally means ‘fresh cream’. Crème Fraiche is made from cow’s milk and is similar to sour cream, but is much thicker and richer. The cream leaves a nutty, cultured flavor on your tongue, just shy of sour.
Crème Fraiche can be used in all sorts of recipes, even heated. Due to its high fat content, it won’t curdle in hot dishes. Traditionally, it’s referred to a French finishing cream and can be added to countless dishes upon completion to add a little something extra.
Melt over pastas or sautéed vegetables for an instant cream sauce or incorporate it into herbed mashed potatoes for an extra tang. Don’t feel limited to the main course though. Top fresh berries with a bit of sugar and a dollop of Crème Fraiche to compliment their tart flavors.
