Blueberries are a sweet and tart summer fruit that respond very well to the drying process. Their fruity flavor and chewy texture makes them a great addition to both sweet and savory dishes.
Blueberries are a favorite for their sweet and tangy flavor and their soft texture. Blueberries are available fresh for most of the warmer seasons in a wide range of regions. During the winter you can find then frozen in almost any grocery store. We don’t turn to dried blueberries as our last resort; we turn to them for their amazing concentrated flavor, their sweetness, petite size and enjoyable texture.
Blueberries take very well to being dried and can be used in just as many applications as the fresh ones. They are delicious in hot or cold cereal or sprinkled onto an adventurous salad. A handful of dried blueberries makes an excellent addition to any scone, muffins or bread dough and are even nice scattered through a light vanilla or pound cake. If you care to re-hydrate your dried blueberries, you’ll find even more uses, including, but not limited to sauces, ice cream toppings and pie fillings.
