Cold water caught, salted, herring fillets are packed in barrels then soaked to remove much of the salt. They are then pickled using spices, seasoning, vinegar, and sugar and packed in cream sauce.  Serve with dark, rye bread and chopped onions or with beetroot for a Norse twist.
